A down-to-earth lift-off
Updated: Feb 23, 2020
SO, I'VE LAUNCHED. I'M OPEN FOR BUSINESS. I’ve now got a website up and running to show the world where I am and what I do.
I intend to write as often as I can to keep visitors updated on what I’ve been up to and what’s going on in the world, at least in terms of written content.
The plan is to ensure my blogs are at least one of the following:
So, I’ll comment on news stories occasionally; I’ll offer some views and tips on writing; I also hope to include a sprinkling of humour.
Yes, I promise to limit my ‘dad jokes’ but, when you consider that dad jokes are often a play on words, and I work with words, then I think it’s fair to expect a certain amount of groan-worthy content. I apologise in advance to those with an aversion to this type of ‘humour’. I happen to love it though so, hopefully, at least like-minded people will stick with me.
Otherwise, you can judge for yourselves how successful I am at fulfilling my objectives to be topical and useful. I’ll be happy to receive your feedback in the comments section. I want to give you as much of what you’re looking for as possible, so your views will be genuinely welcomed.
You can also use the comments section to request posts on appropriate subjects. These may include things like grammar questions, tips and tricks and ‘how-to write a…’ (blog, newsletter, email, speech… etc).
I ain’t no grammarian
I don’t profess to be a grammar expert, but I think I have a decent grasp of the subject. I’ll try to provide some clear, non-academic explanations.
For example, while a grammarian may describe a semi-colon as a punctuation mark between two closely related independent clauses, I'd probably say that, in a single sentence, a semi-colon is a slightly longer pause than a comma but less abrupt than a full stop.
As I’m doing now, I’ll also provide an example or two. I find this a more useful way of learning about most things, so it will appeal to those who grasp concepts in the same sort of way as I do.
This will roughly be the length of the blogs, so I’ll bring this first one to a close.
Thanks for reading.
